The Chesterfield Sofa That Shared the Spotlight with Aamir Khan at Marina Bay Sands

When Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan arrived in Singapore for the Singapore International Film Festival (SGIFF), movie fans were treated to an unforgettable opportunity to hear one of Indian cinema's most influential personalities speak about his remarkable career, personal experiences and the stories behind some of his most celebrated films.

Held at Marina Bay Sands (MBS), the special In Conversation With Aamir Khan session on 22 October 2026 brought together cinema enthusiasts for an intimate discussion with the celebrated actor, director and producer. Having spent more than four decades entertaining audiences through films such as Lagaan, 3 Idiots, PK and Dangal, Aamir Khan had plenty of stories to share.

But while the evening was undoubtedly about cinema, there was another interesting detail that caught the attention of design and furniture enthusiasts: the elegant Chesterfield Sofa on which Aamir Khan sat during the conversation.

The sofa was the Kensington by Locus Habitat, a classic leather Chesterfield that embodies the timeless appeal of traditional furniture craftsmanship.

With its distinctive silhouette, sophisticated button detailing and understated colonial-era character, the Kensington made a fitting addition to an occasion celebrating a personality whose influence has endured across generations.

For those who appreciate beautiful furniture, this was more than simply a seating arrangement at a prestigious event. It was an opportunity to see how a thoughtfully designed Chesterfield Sofa can bring sophistication, character and presence to a space.

At Locus Habitat, the Kensington represents the enduring appeal of classic furniture. Designed for people who appreciate traditional elegance without wanting an excessively oversized sofa, it offers a distinctive combination of formal seating, timeless aesthetics and practical proportions.

Aamir Khan at Marina Bay Sands: An Evening of Cinema, Memories and Conversation

Aamir Khan's appearance in Singapore was part of the Singapore International Film Festival's programme, where he received the prestigious SGIFF Screen Icon Award.

The award recognised his extraordinary contribution to Indian cinema and his influence as an actor, filmmaker and producer.

During the two-hour conversation at Marina Bay Sands, moderated by Singaporean comedian and host Rishi Budhrani, Aamir Khan reflected on his experiences across four decades in the film industry.

He discussed the challenges of navigating his early career, the importance of choosing meaningful film projects and the personal lessons that have shaped his approach to life.

One particularly interesting revelation concerned the upcoming sequel to 3 Idiots. Khan shared that director Rajkumar Hirani was working on the sequel's script and that he expected to receive a final draft after returning to Mumbai.

The discussion also touched on family, the importance of personal relationships and his changing perspective on work.

Having spent much of his earlier career deeply immersed in filmmaking, Khan spoke about the importance of making more time for his loved ones.

These reflections offered fans a rare glimpse into the person behind the celebrated screen performances.

The atmosphere was thoughtful, engaging and personal — precisely the kind of setting in which a classic Chesterfield Sofa feels naturally at home.

A well-designed sofa does more than provide somewhere to sit. It helps establish the character of a room, creating an inviting focal point around which conversations and experiences can unfold.

That is one of the reasons the Chesterfield design has remained relevant for generations.

The Enduring Appeal of the Chesterfield Sofa

The Chesterfield is among the most recognisable sofa designs in furniture history.

Its signature characteristics include deep button tufting, a structured silhouette, upholstered arms and a distinctive traditional appearance.

Historically associated with British interiors, gentlemen's clubs and sophisticated private residences, the Chesterfield has become an internationally recognised symbol of classic furniture design.

Its appeal lies in the combination of visual richness and architectural structure.

Unlike contemporary minimalist sofas that often disappear into their surroundings, a Chesterfield naturally attracts attention.

Its upholstery details create depth and texture, while its carefully proportioned silhouette gives the room a strong visual anchor.

This explains why the Chesterfield Sofa continues to appear in a wide variety of interiors, from heritage-inspired homes to modern apartments.

The Kensington carries these design characteristics into a format that feels particularly relevant to Singapore's residential landscape.

It offers the traditional character of a Chesterfield while maintaining proportions that are easier to incorporate into different types of spaces.

Why Locus Habitat for a Chesterfield Sofa?

Selecting the right sofa involves more than choosing an attractive design.

It also means finding a furniture specialist that understands the relationship between craftsmanship, proportions, upholstery and interior design.

Locus Habitat offers a collection of classic furniture that celebrates traditional design and timeless aesthetics.

Its Chesterfield collection includes several distinctive models, each offering a different interpretation of the familiar silhouette.

The Kensington stands out for its petite proportions and formal seating character.

For homeowners who want the appearance of a traditional Chesterfield without the visual bulk of some larger designs, this makes it an interesting option.

Locus Habitat's approach also allows customers to explore different seating configurations and upholstery considerations.

When selecting a sofa, customers should consider not only the colour and appearance of the leather but also the overall dimensions, cushion preferences and intended placement.

This is particularly important in Singapore, where living spaces vary considerably in size.

A sofa that looks perfect in a large showroom may require a different configuration to work effectively in a condominium apartment.

Taking accurate measurements and considering the surrounding furniture can make a significant difference.

The Kensington is an example of how classic furniture can be adapted to meet the needs of contemporary interiors without losing its original design character.
